I wanted to give it 5 stars because I love the size, but I received the mat on 4/11. When I opened the package, I noticed a strong chemical smell. I put the mat on my ironing board to air out. The next day when I used the mat to press my blocks, the odor made my eyes water. I do not have a sensitivity to odors. I had to put the mat in a room with the windows open to air it out. I finally was able to use the mat this week 4/27. I have other wool mats and have never had this problem. I will not be sending it back.
I made a tool workbench into an ironing station. I was able to cut the wool mat to fit. It cut easily with a box cutter. I can iron the entire width of a piece of fabric at a time.
I had a "wool" mat before but it melted on my iron. I wanted to get one from a reputable seller. I use this one for extended hours of pressing and have no issues with it. Love it!

Wow! How I lived without a little wool mat, I’ll never know. Using it with the new small iron I purchased also? Is a dream! The mat is so much better than the ironing board and the iron is a lot easier to use when pressing open the seams! It fits my hand, is lightweight and I can specifically target the seams and not having to deal with the bigger iron!
It is exactly what I had been looking for, for a long time. I will soon be working on a wedding quilt and am excited to use the board a lot. I am glad I found it.
My mat was not cut straight! It was cut like an arch. Being a quilter we know how important precise cuts are. It bowed in 1/2" on one side & bowed out on the other side. Plus the edges were beveled. Not straight up & down. It did not fit correctly on my custom made ironing table top. SPO wants me to pay for return shipping. Very disappointed in their quality and customer service.
So handy and practical. Love this purchase for quilting or just general sewing. Used it to press a collar rather than pull out the whole ironing board!
Love the big felt for my big ironing board, seems to work well. There was some odor initially, so I put it outside in the sun all day to try to get rid of it. That got rid of most of it, but I can still smell it a little after a week. It 'grabs' my iron a little, and my iron is relatively new with a very shiny stainless-steel base. It does seem to hold the heat a little better. I am a little concerned that you're not supposed to use moisture/water spray - that sure helps keep seams pressed.
Using this mat has really upped my quilt making. Blocks are more controlled by the even heat of the mat. I've been able to lower the temperature some on my iron to make the two work in harmony. I believe that this will up my quilt making.
I got the 17x17. It fits perfectly next to my sewing machine in my work area. It was exactly what I needed. And something about it just makes your seams so nice and flat.

This pad is so handy to keep on my craft table for a seam or bias tape pressing. I can pin down small pieces and press easily and the heat does not go through the pad to the table. Worth every penny!

I have always wanted a wool pressing mat. I like the way the fabric Looks after being pressedł The top the mat. The folds of fabric are crisper. I am going to place this mat next to the sewing machine so I don’t have to get up and walk over to the ironing board to press after I saw.
I also ordered the Big Board, and wool mat was a perfect fit. It took a few days to flatten out from being rolled for shipping, but it’s working beautifully now.

Very convenient and useful
I live in a retirement village. My apartment has limited space so I gave my ironing board away. I am a prolific hand sewer of quilts. The wool pad is ideal for quilt blocks. No setting up of a gangly board, just a space in my bench, in front of a plug. The mat absorbs moisture from the steam iron and lives in my hot water cupboard to ensure it dries out. This is my second pad since 2004.
