This Candy Quilt Block Is Almost Too Sweet! 🍭 | With Bob

Halloween candy gets two thumbs up from me, especially when we can turn it into a quilt block! This Candy Quilt Block is a fun, beginner-friendly project that comes together quickly using simple squares and half-square triangles. I used Checked Black and Orange fabric for that perfect Halloween look, but you can make your candy pieces in all kinds of colors and prints.

What You’ll Need

For one Candy Quilt Block, cut:

  • 10 white squares: 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

  • 2 print squares: 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

  • 2 white squares: 4" x 4"

  • 2 print squares: 4" x 4"

I used Checked Black and Orange for my print.

Step 1: Make the Half-Square Triangles

Take your two 4" white squares and two 4" print squares.

Pair one white square with one print square, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the back of one square.

Stitch 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sides. Cut directly along the drawn line to separate the pieces.

Repeat with your second pair of 4" squares.

Open and press your units. You will now have four half-square triangles.

Step 2: Lay Out the Candy Block

Now it’s time to create our piece of candy!

Arrange your four half-square triangles, two 3 1/2" print squares, and ten 3 1/2" white squares to form the candy shape.

The print squares create the center of the candy, while the half-square triangles help form the twisted ends of the wrapper. The remaining white squares create the background.

I recommend laying everything out before you start sewing so you can make sure all your half-square triangles are facing the correct direction.

Step 3: Sew the Units Together

Start by sewing your squares together in pairs.

Once your pairs are complete, join them together to create larger sections of the block. Continue joining your sections from top to bottom until you assemble the entire Candy Quilt Block.

Press your seams as you go to help everything stay nice and flat.

Step 4: Make It Your Own

And there you have it: a piece of candy made from fabric!

This is a great block for playing with different colors and prints. Make each piece of candy a different color, use your favorite Halloween fabrics, or mix several prints for a colorful candy quilt.

It’s easy, fast, and beginner-friendly, and I think it makes a really fun Halloween project.

I hope you’ll give it a try, and as always, happy sewing!
