This Quilt Block Has Serious Movement | Blazing Arrows
This pattern is called Blazing Arrows, and it is one of those designs that really shines once you see how it comes together. At first glance it is cool on its own, but when you start laying out multiple blocks, the effect really comes to life. The repeated layout creates bold movement and visual interest, and it is hard not to love the finished look. Even better, it is very simple to make.
For this version, I chose 3 inch half square triangles, but you can absolutely use whatever HST size you prefer. The fabric used here is from the New Worlds collection by Rob Appel, a Benner Text fabric. We will be linking to that fabric collection in the video description if you would like to take a closer look.
This layout shows the basic structure of the block, and everything is made entirely from half square triangles. If you want to recreate this exact design, feel free to screenshot the layout as a reference. Because I used 3 inch HSTs, the finished quilt block comes out to about 10 and a quarter inches. If you choose a different HST size, you will want to do the math to get the finished block size you are aiming for.
When it comes time to sew, the process is straightforward. Sew your pieces together in pairs, then sew those pairs into fours. From there, join the fours together, and finally sew the top half to the bottom half of the block. That is all there is to it.
The finished result is clean, bold, and eye catching, with very little complexity in the construction. This makes it a great option for beginners who want something that looks impressive without being overwhelming.
