Sew Creative Wool Pressing Mats
Wool pressing mats have become one of my favorite sewing tools since I started using them about a year ago. They save time by letting me press fabric right next to my sewing machine, and because they’re made from 100% New Zealand wool, they retain heat so well that they press both sides of the fabric at once. The Sew Creative line offers a variety of sizes, from a tiny 4-inch square perfect for small pieces to a massive 21x58-inch mat ideal for pressing full quilt tops. There’s even a Wool Mat Cleaning Tool from The Gypsy Quilter to keep your mat free of lint and threads. These mats have completely changed the way I sew, and I can’t imagine working without one.
I never realized how much I loved wool pressing mats until I started using them about a year ago. This small mat fits perfectly next to my sewing machine, and it’s been a total game changer. It saves me countless trips back and forth to the ironing board, which makes sewing so much faster and easier. I absolutely love it.
We now have our own line of wool pressing mats under the Sew Creative brand, and they come in a variety of fantastic sizes. For reference, I’ve placed my half-square triangles on one to show scale. I use a little mini Oliso iron next to my sewing machine with this mat, and the combination works beautifully. Each mat is made from 100% New Zealand wool, which holds and intensifies heat so that when you press the front of your fabric, it also presses the back at the same time. Once you try it, you’ll never want to be without one in your sewing space.
The Sew Creative line includes several sizes to fit every project. There’s a tiny 4-inch square mat that’s perfect for small pieces and half-square triangles, and it’s adorable. The 8½-inch square is great for slightly larger work, while the 13-1/2" x 13-1/2" and 17-inch square mats are ideal for keeping next to your sewing machine. For bigger blocks, the 14x18 and 17x24 mats give you more room to press comfortably while sitting down. And then there’s the big one—21x58 inches. It’s huge, bigger than my table, and perfect for pressing full quilt tops or large sections without constantly moving your fabric.
We also carry a handy cleaning tool from The Gypsy Quilter called the Wool Mat Cleaning Tool. It works like a lint scraper to remove threads and fibers from your mat, keeping it clean and in great shape.
These Sew Creative wool pressing mats have truly changed how I sew. You can find them at Sewing Parts Online, along with the cleaning tool.
