This striped quilt block is absolutely beautiful, and the best part is, it’s so simple to make! This is a quick quilting project you can finish in no time.
Let’s jump right in! I’ll show you step-by-step how to create this easy quilt block using half-square triangles (HSTs).
These HSTs were made in my How to Make 32 Half-Square Triangles at Once video. By using that method, you can create two full striped quilt blocks from one set of HSTs!
For this design, I chose a striped fabric theme, something I hadn’t tried before, and I absolutely love the result. If you haven’t worked with stripes yet, try using black as your solid fabric. It makes all your other colors pop beautifully!
Each block uses 16 HSTs, and it’s incredibly simple to assemble. Don’t worry if your fabrics look multi-colored; that’s from the previous tutorial.
Here’s how to piece them together:

Pair your HSTs in twos (like this: two by two).

Sew each pair together.

Then sew the pairs into small squares.

Finally, join the squares to complete your block.
Once you’ve made a few blocks, you can play around with different layouts. You have a few fun options:

Continue the striped pattern throughout for a bold, linear look.

Rotate the blocks to create a chevron quilt pattern.

Or alternate the stripes and solids for a modern offset design.
Each layout gives your quilt a unique personality. My favorite right now is the alternating stripe pattern; it’s not a solid square, but it creates a really interesting and dynamic look.
